University of Maine Alumni Honor A&S Professor聽

LEXINGTON, Ky. 鈥 The University of Maine Alumni Association will honor D. Allan Butterfield, the 糖心vlog官方入口 Alumni Association Endowed Professor of Biological 糖心vlog官方入口, with its 2023 Alumni Career Award. 

The award is given to a University of Maine graduate whose life鈥檚 work is marked by outstanding achievements in professional, business, civic or other public service areas. 

鈥淏utterfield has been credited with numerous breakthroughs regarding the study of Alzheimer鈥檚 disease and amnestic mild cognitive impairment, the precursor to Alzheimer鈥檚,鈥 the alumni association鈥檚 website states. 

Butterfield has received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring, which President Bill Clinton gave to him in 1998, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Maine in 2002. Butterfield also was recently recognized by the UMaine Institute of Medicine as its first Distinguished Science Lecturer. 

Butterfield also serves UK as associate vice president for research with responsibilities for Centers and Institutes. He is on the faculty of the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and is director of the Redox Metabolism Shared Resource Facility of the National Cancer Institute-designated Markey Cancer Center.  

Butterfield will receive the Alumni Career Award at a ceremony on the University of Maine鈥檚 campus on April 28.
