Learning a Hard Science: The ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Learning Center with Lisa Blue

Introductory ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú can be a challenge, but Lisa Blue, a professor within the Department of , eases students' transition to college chemistry with the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Learning Center. It will serve students of General and Organic ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú: answer their questions, provide tutoring, and help students become more confident in their understanding of chemistry.

Research Rewarded: Marcelo Guzman

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú Professor Marcelo Guzman was recently awarded a five year National Science Foundation (NSF) career grant to aid in his atmospheric chemistry research with students here at the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú.



The grant will also enable Guzman to extend the reach of the university and chemistry department by strengthening and creating new connections with other institutions such as local high schools.

Following the Campaign Trail: Currents Fall 2012

Fall of 2012 was the perfect time to conduct a class about American electoral politics - so it was taken up as the topic for , a class offered to incoming Freshmen. The course explores the 2012 election from a variety of academic perspectives - including, but not limited to, philosophy, economics, history, and, of course, political science. In this podcast, five Currents students shared their experiences with the class.

John Brown served with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for more than two decades. He served in many capacities, including as a serology examiner, special agent, investigator, and was program manager for the development of the . In this podcast, Brown describes some of his work with the Bureau and how taking courses at UK gave a solid foundation for the career path he chose.

Improving General ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú with Stephen Testa

Over 2,500 students take introductory chemistry classes each semester. As the director of general chemistry, Stephen Testa oversees the planning and curricula of each of these introductory courses. In this interview, professor Testa discusses what he and his colleagues are doing to improve the grades, and the experiences, of students fulfilling their chemistry credits.

Allan Butterfield: UK Alumni Association Endowed Professor of Biological ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú - UK at the Half with Carl Nathe

Allan Butterfield, professor of ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù·½Èë¿Ú and Director of the Center of Membrane Sciences, has been named a UK Alumni Association Endowed Professor. Butterfield's research tackles issues surrounding Alzheimer's Disease and related research areas in biological chemistry. Carl Nathe, host of UK at the Half, interviewed him for the radio program, which airs during each UK football game.
