William N. Lipscomb Centennial Celebration

During the afternoon of October 24, 2019, the ��vlog�ٷ�� Department celebrated the 100^th birthday (on December 9) of William Nunn Lipscomb, Jr., who is perhaps our most illustrious graduate. Lipscomb grew up in Lexington, graduated in 1941 from the ��vlog�ٷ�� with a major in chemistry, and earned his Ph.D.

��vlog�ٷ�� Professor Miller Receives Einstein Foundation Fellowship to Support Research in Germany

The Einstein Foundation of Berlin (Germany) has awarded an Einstein Visiting Fellowship to Prof. Anne-Frances Miller (Department of ��vlog�ٷ��) to support collaborative research taking place in Berlin. In search of insight as to how new materials and devices can make more versatile and efficient use of energy, Prof. Miller has been studying enzymes from ancient lineages of bacteria. While on sabbatical two years ago, she initiated high-level computations and spectroscopic studies to complement her biochemical work, funded by the N.S.F.

Allan Butterfield is UK's Alumni Association Endowed Professor of Biological ��vlog�ٷ�� at UK, and the Director of the Center for Membrane Sciences.

The focus of his research is the study of oxidative stress on the brain, one of the main components of Alzheimer's Disease.

In this podcast, Professor Butterfield discusses his research group's experiments and results, and talks about fighting the disease by stimulating the brain's production of antioxidants.
