Concussions and brain injury have become topics of social concern in response to controversies involving sports – namely the National Football League. But Tanea Reed has been researching therapeutic interventions in traumatic brain injury since long before concussions became matters of public concern.

In 2013, a group of ��vlog�ٷ�� Department faculty, students and alumni met to discuss reviving the department's newsletter, and an outgrowth of that effort to re-establish communications among current and future alumni was the ��vlog�ٷ�� Alumni Board (CAB) which held its organizational meeting on Saturday, October 11, 2014.

UK ��vlog�ٷ�� Alumni Set World Record in Realm of Energy Efficiency

In a year that ��vlog�ٷ�� teams have captured national titles, two UK alumni were part of another team that gained a world-record title — one that has the potential to impact everyone.

UK alumni Joe Bullock and Kathy Woody are synthetic chemists at Phillips 66, a Houston-based company that manufactures energy products. Their team recently attained the world record for the most efficient polymer-based solar cells.

John Brown served with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for more than two decades. He served in many capacities, including as a serology examiner, special agent, investigator, and was program manager for the development of the National DNA Indexing System. In this podcast, Brown describes some of his work with the Bureau and how taking chemistry courses at UK gave a solid foundation for the career path he chose.

Allan Butterfield is UK's Alumni Association Endowed Professor of Biological ��vlog�ٷ�� at UK, and the Director of the Center for Membrane Sciences.

The focus of his research is the study of oxidative stress on the brain, one of the main components of Alzheimer's Disease.

In this podcast, Professor Butterfield discusses his research group's experiments and results, and talks about fighting the disease by stimulating the brain's production of antioxidants.
