Miller, Odom, and Yang Bring Four NSF Grants to UK ��vlog�ٷ��

Professors Anne-Frances Miller, Susan Odom, and Dong-Sheng Yang have received four new grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF). These highly-competitive awards will fund research projects on electron transfer in flavoproteins (Miller), high potential redox couples (Odom), high concentration electrolytes (Odom), and spectroscopy of transient organometallic complexes (Yang).

Wei Receives NSF Grant to Study Membrane Protein Oligomerization

Dr. Yinan Wei, associate professor of chemistry at the ��vlog�ٷ��, has received an award to study membrane protein oligomerizations in bilayers. This award, supported by The ��vlog�ٷ�� of Life Processes Program in the ��vlog�ٷ�� Division of the National Science Foundation, investigates protein-protein interactions in the cell membrane that lead to the assembly of functional protein complexes.

UK ��vlog�ٷ�� Researchers Awarded National Science Foundation Grant to Build a Battery Prototype

A team of scientists at the ��vlog�ٷ�� and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have been awarded a National Science Foundation grant to develop a prototype of a battery utilizing chemical components prepared at UK. Professors Susan Odom and John Anthony (UK ��vlog�ٷ��) synthesized new organic compounds as donors and acceptors for a type of battery called a redox flow battery (RFB), currently of great interest for large-scale energy storage.

��vlog�ٷ�� Professor Marcelo Guzman was recently awarded a five year National Science Foundation (NSF) career grant to aid in his atmospheric chemistry research with students here at the ��vlog�ٷ��.

The grant will also enable Guzman to extend the reach of the university and chemistry department by strengthening and creating new connections with other institutions such as local high schools.
